Were All Men Created Equally?

No. They weren't. At least they were until landing in the U.S. You see, The Founding Fathers of this country made sure that whatever they said/wrote didn't contradict how they acted, or at least at that moment. things such as slavery, segregation, and the prison industrial complex have been dark chapters in this nation's history, and they go against everything whites have said about themselves. in this essay i'll provide examples at why I think the answer is no.
slavery is not a modern concept. it has been around for thousands of years, but only recently has it been discriminatory or prejudiced at a certain "race". "race" is a more modern concept. it's been around a few centuries already, & it came from an Italian word "razza", meaning people. Thomas Jefferson & his delegates made perfect sure they didn't mention a thing about race in the declaration of independence. he owned slaves himself, so he for one didn't think much about human equality.
segregation is as old or older than the concept of race, i'd argue. the definition of segregation is the action or state of setting someone or something apart from other people or things or being set apart. that doesn't sound like equality to the people being separated from others. when people are segregated, the majority(whites) always get better treatment than everybody else. better jobs, education, social services, etc. the segregation of the 20th century support my statement. blacks & whites were segregated from each other by simple things like water fountains, pools, buses, churches, diners, & other public services which meant whites had access to cleaner, bigger pools, more affordable healthcare, better food, better everything basically. now that doesn't seem like equality to me at all.
the prison industrial complex is a fairly new, structured concept. it has been the destruction of many minorities lives, families, and cultures. Rockefeller drug laws & Reagan's say no to drugs campaign tightened the grip on mainly drug dealers, mainly people of color, who mainly have no way but selling drugs to live a comfortable life, who live in a mainly white world, that mainly cares about white people. the school to prison pipeline can support that statement because students all across the u.s. are being expelled from school & sent to jails & prisons for the smallest amounts of least harmful high inducing substance in the world, marijuana. the same people who criminalize marijuana users are the same people who don't give a damn about actually helping the economy & look at every p.o.c. as a dollar sign. people who run prisons & industries that produce for them look at imprisonment as solutions to economic, social and political problems. p.o.c. are the most disadvantaged in society, & prison does nothing for anybody, so they fuel the flame by massively incarcerating millions of people each year for petty crimes. i don't think that is fair or equal to anybody.
so in conclusion, id say that the u.s. does not treat everybody equally, or else everybody would have the same knowledge & paying jobs as everybody else.

  1. Great, thoughtful essay. I really appreciate it. The essay however needs major revisions in regards to grammar, punctuation and sentence structure. Lets work on this for your next essay.
